Boy Scouts make controversial decision to admit girls

The Girl Scouts say they’ve known for months that the Boy Scouts were considering opening their ranks to girls.

The response to the Boy Scouts of America announcement this week that the 107-year-old organization will expand its tent to include girls came as swiftly as a troop selling out of mint Girl Scout cookies.

“Existing packs may choose to establish a new girl pack, establish a pack that consists of girl dens and boy dens or remain an all-boy pack”.

“The values of scouting – trustworthy, loyal, helpful, kind, fearless and reverent, for example – are important for both young men and women”, said Michael Surbaugh, Chief Scout Executive.

There are obvious reasons to lament this development from a traditionalist standpoint.

Brownwood Boy Scouts will be allowing. “At this point we’re just about reminding people that we have an expertise in serving girls that the Boy Scouts just don’t have”. Perhaps this structure is in answer to worries some Boy Scout parents have and could appeal as a “one-stop shop” of sorts, but this also gives parents of young girls an option to avoid the “all-in for the progressive agenda” Girl Scouts.

Teeming with patches, camping equipment, and “Proud Cub Scout Mom” apparel, the East Hartford Scout Shop tucked near I-84 has been a mainstay of the local Boy Scout community for decades. The rest goes to production costs and overhead. We offer exciting, challenging programs that allow girls to take the lead in a range of activities-from kayaking and archery to outdoor survival and camping.

They’re pretty incredible kids, and it has been a privilege to watch them grow from tiny little Daisies to proud and strong Cadette Girl Scouts.

She and her family have dedicated much of their time to communicating with various groups, the National Organization for Women in particular, to get resolutions passed, and two years ago Sydney and her brother, Bryan, who is an Eagle Scout (the highest honor that a Boy Scout can attain), got more than 9,000 people to sign an online petition that asked the Boy Scouts of America to adjust the organization’s charter to become co-ed.

That said, the BSA has its own own membership issues.

More than 2.4 million young men like Skelly have achieved Eagle Scout.

During middle school, non-Girl Scouts’ interest and involvement in their communities decreases, whereas Girl Scouts’ desires to solve problems in their communities rise. He supports the decision to expand membership. Femininity and womanhood have always been a part of the Boy Scouts of America. He had stopped in with his wife of 45 years, Shirley, to pick up introductory badges for their group’s 15 new members.

From the lifting of the ban on openly gay boys from joining the organization, to the sanctioning of openly gay adult leaders, to the encouragement of so-called “transgendered” boys to join, the BSA’s moral foundation has been rapidly and steadily eroding into dust.

Looking ahead, it’s hard to imagine the BSA reversing this trend. As an LGBT rights campaigner, I would also suggest that this decision facilitates the process of allowing openly trans members into BSA ranks in a more encompassing way. Understandably, they were less than thrilled. But LGBT activists intimidated the United Way and other high profile corporate supporters, and the BSA caved. The scouts have raised $4,000 in popcorn this year, and Dugan said they hope for the misappropriated funds to be restored. “They’ll be able to be recognized for their accomplishments”, Nelson said.

Youth programs that serve the entire family are appealing to busy parents, according to the announcement.

Earlier this year, the church announced it was pulling 185,000 older teens out of scouting programs. If the Mormons pull out of the BSA, they’re done for. There certainly have been cases of Boy Scout leadership removing an Eagle Scout rank from LGBT scouts due to their identity.
