Brad Ausmus Claims Johnny Cueto Cheated
Cueto struck out eight and walked none to pick up his first Royals victory in his third start. He was 0-2 in his first two starts, including a loss to the Tigers at Comerica Park just a week before. He earned his first Detroit win in his debut against the Royals a week ago. He threw a four-hit shutout, beating the Detroit Tigers 4-0. Sanchez allowed five runs on seven hits and one walk over 5 1/3 innings with four strikeouts.
Making his home debut for the Kansas City Royals, Cueto made a strong impression upon the Royals faithful, firing a four hit shutout over the Detroit Tigers last night.
“It was pretty fun to see, his first game as a Royal at the K and hear the crowd out there in the ninth inning”.
Going back to Cueto.
He had cut his baseball front office teeth in Atlanta, working with Braves general manager John Schuerholz, who mixed and matched the pieces for a roster that produced a professional sports record 14 consecutive first-place finishes. For a few years now, Cueto has had a reputation for altering his windup. “He was pitching aggressively in and that opened up his secondary pitches”.
After Morales issued a one-out walk to Jose Iglesias, Ned Yost trudged back out to the center of the diamond, gesturing with his right hand for Luke Hochevar. I’m looking at a determined KC team that wants to get the Central race over and done with… He’s pounding strikes and keeps you on your toes as a defender. “That’s the way the rule reads”. Salvy (Perez, catcher) played a big part in it. He said, ‘Let’s go out and finish this thing.’ One of the main reasons was to rest our bullpen. If his arm responds well Tuesday, he could be ready to pitch.
The key phrase in that ruling is “without interruption or alteration”.
“Really, the way the rule reads, you’re not supposed to even alter your motion”, Ausmus said. “It just never happened. He was trying to use it; he just got caught a little too far off. We have been picked off more than we should”. He was changing his speeds, throwing all of his pitches with all of his timings to the plate.
When Ventura’s night was over, he had completed six innings of work, allowing two hits, striking out eight, walking six, but ceding no runs. The Royals are a whopping -190 favorite while the total is 8.5. Through two starts in the Old English D, he owns a 1-1 record with a 2.98 ERA. Cron has struck out in almost a fourth of his at-bats this season. Perhaps the Tigers need to consider signing him for 2016.
Brad Ausmus believes that Johnny Cueto’s sometimes-funky delivery is illegal.
This is what the Royals were expecting when they acquired Cueto. Anibal Sanchez paid dearly for his mistakes as home runs continued to haunt him.
