Bradford, Murray look sharp in Eagles’ 40-17 win over Ravens
In Week 2, Eagles fans should get to see some key players for the first time.
Suggs drew a flag for roughing the passer after drilling Bradford, who handed off on a read-option play.
Bradford implied that Suggs went at his knees intentionally. “I didn’t. I eased up”, Suggs said, via Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sunday. I’m not sure if this was related to him only playing one series or not. It’s part of the game. Murray had over 450 total touches last season and the Eagles are going to try and ensure he is not overworked this time around.
The first team Ravens offense pounded the ball down the throats of the Eagles behind an imposing line.
Wesley, who entered the game early in the first quarter once Hurst went down, appears to have suffered the most serious injury.
In the second quarter, things got worse when left tackle Eugene Monroe had his hand heavily wrapped and treated with ice. Later, Kelce said, he realized that Suggs was probably following directions. Not what you want to see in your big-time money quarterback. No worries – after watching him for three weeks in practice, I have no doubts about his accuracy.
A few plays later, on second-and-seven, Bradford walked away from a massive shot by 335-pound defensive tackle Brandon Williams. But he shook that off, too.
The same sentiments were echoed by his Philadelphia Eagles coach.
Coach Chip Kelly would neither confirm nor deny talk that Bradford will start. Bradford even took a couple of shots in his Philadelphia debut, including one from Baltimore’s Terrell Suggs that resulted in a 15-yard personal foul. He also led the NFL in touches – by a wide margin – with 449. Free agent signing Brad Jones will also garner some snaps on the outside. “Give them some credit; they made some plays in all three phases”. “I got back up and felt good”.
After a 7-yard reception by Darren Sproles and two runs by Mathews, the Eagles had a 1st-and-goal from the 2. Some of the time it had to do with the coverage (last season).
How the revamped run game fares this season arguably will have a greater impact on the Eagles’ fortunes than what Bradford does. I think for us, for me especially, I’m still learning the offense, it’s good to hear different calls.
We’re talking about guys that played somewhere else or weren’t on the 53-man roster and, in the case of Sam Bradford, didn’t play a year ago.
There was so much more. There were however some that were not as impressive, including backup QB Mark Sanchez and K Cody Parkey.
Garoppolo finished 28 of 33 for 269 yards and an interception.
Though Tebow looks like the third-string quarterback behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez, he figures to have a very specific role on the team: extra-point, goal-line, and short yardage situations.
So what does this all mean for Matt Barkley?
Villanova product Kevin Monangai, despite losing a fumble, rushed for 87 yards on 10 carries for the Eagles, including a 28-yard jaunt to set up his own one-yard scoring run with 1:54 left. They didn’t disappoint in their cameos.
