Bradley launches Supreme Court bid
Crooks, 77, will have served nearly 39 years as a Wisconsin judge, including 20 years as a Supreme Court justice.
Justice Patrick Crooks announced yesterday that he won’t seek another 10-year term.
Bradley said Thursday she will strictly adhere to the U.S. Constitution and won’t “legislate from the bench” after a pair of sheriffs and a county prosecutor touted her commitment to uphold the law as it’s been written. He’s typically seen as a swing vote between the four-justice conservative majority and the two-justice liberal-leaning minority.
Bradley was appointed the Court of Appeal in May of this year, after previously serving as a Milwaukee County Circuit Court since 2012.
She was mentioned as a Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate by 2014 but declined, saying she was focused on her circuit court work.
The race is officially nonpartisan, but Bradley has conservatives’ support and Kloppenburg has Democratic backing.
Appeals Judge JoAnn Kloppenburg, who lost a Supreme Court recount to incumbent David Prosser in 2011, is running for the high court again next spring.
Rebecca Bradley, who is no relation to Justice Ann Walsh Bradley, is being supported by conservatives.
“He is an independent judge, and that legacy is what I hope to carry on”, he said. Chheda also said the judge wouldn’t represent one side or another.
Rebecca Bradley registered as a candidate on Tuesday, according to state election officials.
