“Brady Bunch” kids pay tribute to TV mom Florence Henderson
Friday morning, people in the Valley remembered Henderson.
PEPPERMINT TROLLEY COMPANY: (Singing) All of them had hair of gold, like their mother, the youngest one in curls.
Another “Brady Bunch” son, Christopher Knight, tweeted that he was “privileged to have known her and the kindness of her heart”.
In addition to Maureen McCormick, several other Brady Bunch stars posted messages about Henderson on social media.
But it was the 1969 premiere of “The “Brady Bunch,” among the first USA television shows to focus on a non-traditional family, that made her a household name”. She answered, “Probably as someone who survived for a long time in a very tough business and, hopefully, managed to retain a sense of humanity”.

First shown in 1969, television soapThe Brady Bunch told of single parents with children who married to form a “blended” family. Ms. Henderson pretended to clear up the mystery in a 2015 interview.
“She would sign every autograph, she would stay for hours, sign every 8 x 10 glossy, answer every fan letter because to her it was a real – to be a celebrity”. She grew up in poverty on a tobacco farm near Owensboro, Kentucky.
“She was a wonderful lady who cared deeply for the traditions that have made the Indianapolis 500 so special and a highlight for me each year is spending time with Florence on race weekends!”
At 17, she moved to NY to study singing and acting and within a year was a chorus member on Broadway.
She went on to land the female lead in a tour of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma!
The 60-year-old actress has taken to Twitter to pay tribute to her “dear friend”.
In 1959, Henderson became a regular on NBC’s “Today” show, giving reports on fashion and the weather. As an adult, she studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and went on to become a radio talk show host, an artist, a designer who worked with Converse on their glow-in-the-dark sneakers, and an animal-welfare advocate. She later had corrective surgery in both ears.
Despite a variety of appearances in many different stage productions, television shows, and movies for more than 60 years, the public recognizes Henderson primarily as Carol Brady.
“There are so many people who never met Florence but feel like she was a best friend or a mother to them”.
In 1987 she married John Kappas, a hypnotherapist. Her manager said in a statement Henderson died of heart failure with family and friends nearby.
She was also back again in 1995 when a new cast was assembled for The Brady Bunch Movie, a playful spoof of the original show.
Her death was unexpected. At the time she was like a second mother but she was so much more than that. I think that buried in that scene is the success of the entire show.
