Brady, Newton top Pro Bowl vote-getters from fans
The fans vote is 1/3 of the deciding factor on who makes the Pro Bowl.
Quarterbacks occupied the top five places, with Brady followed by Cam Newton (Carolina Panthers), Andy Dalton (Cincinnati Bengals), Carson Palmer (Arizona Cardinals) and Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers).
After fan voting closed on Tuesday, it was found that the 38-year-old quarterback received more Pro Bowl votes than any other National Football League player this season, totaling 701,554.
The NFL will announce Pro Bowl rosters next week based on voting by fans, players and coaches. Each block’s choices will count one-third in the selection process. No player cracked the top 10 in overall votes.
“It would be an honor for me to be part of the Pro Bowl”, Ansah told Mlive.com on Thursday. The game itself is January 31 in Honolulu.
Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin will serve as the NFL Legends captains for the Pro Bowl.
Devonta Freeman of the Atlanta Falcons edged the Minnesota Vikings’ Adrian Peterson for the top spot among running backs. The New York Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr. and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Antonio Brown finished one and two among wide receivers. Defensive end Ezekiel Ansah finished third in the voting among defensive ends, behind only Houston’s J.J. Watt and New England’s Chandler Jones.
Kicker Stephen Gostkowski (220,920), punter Ryan Allen (83,676), special teamer Matthew Slater (104,213) and return specialist Danny Amendola (87,168) were also among the leading vote-getters at their positions.
