Brand New Emojis Are Coming To A Phone Near You
Other updates to people in Unicode 9.0 let users type a clown, pregnant woman or a man appearing to do the dance from “Saturday Night Fever”.
This week, the unicode standard has been updated meaning 72 new emojis has been released and will be more than likely coming to iOS 10.
New emojis to better reflect both genders have also been included like the groom to match the bride, a male dancer to match the salsa dancer and a Mrs Claus to match Santa.
There’s an emoji for nearly everything now – from robots to tacos to lollipops – but the one emoji that recently got the cut: a rifle.
The rifle was part of an Olympics themed set, specifically to represent half of the biathlon, which includes target shooting.
New drinks include a glass of water, champagne and whisky on the rocks.
Breakfast connoisseurs may find thmselves pairing pancakes, croissants and eggs with their bacon and avocado for a symbolic feast.
The California-based Unicode Consortium, which controls emoji standards, has released a list of the new characters.
There’s also a face for “rolling on the floor laughing” and a hand taking a selfie.
Apple is joined on the Unicode Consortium by its main competitors in the mobile market, Microsoft and Google. There are 13 new animals – and, yes, a gorilla is amongst this grouping – a few new vehicles, and several new sports options.
