Brandon Jennings waived by New York Knicks
Jennings will play a similar role with the Wizards as he did with the Knicks, but with NY again floundering toward the bottom of the Eastern Conference, said responsibilities will be more important in Washington.
Jennings won’t be able to actually sign with the team until Wednesday when he clears waivers, but all signs point to him joining the Washington Wizards when that happens.
Kemba Walker is obviously still going to be the work horse for the Hornets, but Jennings could make it more affordable for Charlotte to give Kemba a rest.
For Jennings to play for a contender, he needs to be signed by March 1 to be eligible for the playoffs.
Noah has battled injuries and illness since signing a four-year, $72 million contract.
ESPN’s Chris B. Haynes and Marc Stein reported earlier this afternoon that the Wizards are the likely front-runners to land Jennings. He was happy to finally play for the Knicks, the team he hoped would have selected him in the 2009 NBA Draft. Both teams have had previous rumors regarding their point guard situation. The native of Compton, California is averaging 8.6 points on.380 shooting, 4.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 58 games.
Last week, Jennings removed any references to the Knicks from his Twitter profile. Jennings was someone who they attempted to move at the deadline, but no one bit.
Their offense may be worse with him running it, but NY is incredible dysfunctional on that end of the court. He said he needed a break from the amount of tweets and drama that come from playing for the Knicks. He also ruptured his Achilles tendon in January 2015.
The Knicks were unable to get younger at the National Basketball Association trade deadline, as talks with Minnesota to swap Derrick Rose for Ricky Rubio failed to materialize into a deal.
The Knicks waived Jennings and acquired undrafted rookie Chasson Randle on Monday morning, as the former Detroit Piston notified the club that he prefers to suit up for a playoff team.
