Branislav Ivanovic warns his Chelsea team-mates the team comes first after
The Belgian led the line in Sunday’s 0-0 draw against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur after Chelsea boss Joe Mourinho dropped out-of-sorts striker Diego Costa.
“We all saw how Costa acted on the day, refusing to warm up before the game and throwing away his bib during it when he was not used as a substitute”.
Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho was full of praise of Eden Hazard after the Blues rescued a point at the White Hart Lane against Tottenham in Sunday’s EPL fixture. “I want him to be sharp in front of goal”.
“I think the message to all my players – not just Diego – is that when we play as a team, we are much better”. I was not expecting to have a player on the bench jumping and singing because he is not playing, unless you’re a kid who has a chance to go on the bench – Ruben or Kenedy feel that is one more step.
Mourinho said prior to the game that he left out Costa due to low confidence after just four goals this season, but the pair argued at half-time of last Tuesday’s Champions League clash in Israel and the manager on Friday criticised the striker’s reading of the game. It’s all about the team. “I don’t think his form warranted him playing”.
“Costa should learn from the discipline shown by his team-mates because I’m sure Mourinho can’t be too happy with his conduct”.
And Mourinho said: “We have to play every match as if we are fighting for the title, but the reality is we need points, the same way we needed them last season, when we were top of the table and almost champions and fighting to be champions”. What happens next is up to him, but if he is not playing well, then he will stay on the bench.
“He was ready to play when he went to warm-up”, Mourinho said.
Asmir Begovic has been covering but has been part of a Chelsea side involved in their worst start to a Premier League season in the Roman Abramovich era.
The goalkeeper has not played for Chelsea in nearly three months after suffering a knee injury.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was left disappointed despite his side extending their unbeaten run to 13 league games, the club’s best run since 1985. I know to give my all wherever I am on the pitch, ‘ Hazard told Chelsea TV. I am happy with my decision and the players. It was not always easy but we did a good job and tried to score.
