Braves place Gordon Beckham on DL with hamstring injury
Pence returned to the lineup on Saturday after not starting in six straight games with a right hamstring injury. The right-hander issued a leadoff walk to Gregor Blanco, and in short order, that was followed by a massive, opposite-field home run off the bat of opposing pitcher Madison Bumgarner.
Jarrett Parker will take over as the Giants’ primary right fielder for now. He has started games at second base, third base and shortstop this season.
Pirates’ McCutchen, Cervelli injured • Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen and catcher Francisco Cervelli both left Thursday night’s game against the Miami Marlins due to injuries.
Joe Panik and Buster Posey also hit two-run homers in the fifth inning off Aaron Blair (0-4). Bumgarner struck out Jeff Francoeur and Adonis Garcia.
Blair, who had allowed only two hits and two walks through four scoreless innings, imploded in the fifth frame, allowing six runs to cross the plate as the San Francisco Giants broke the game wide open.
