Brazil look to replace Dunga with Corinthians boss Tite
The Brazilian Football Confederation has announced the sacking of head coach Dunga after the nation’s poor showing in the Copa America. With the Olympics looming large on the horizon, the CBF are now desperate to replace him quickly.
However, the now former Brazil head coach surprisingly also chose to leave Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Silva and Real Madrid’s Marcelo out of his squad and has paid for it with his job. “The CBF has now started the process of forming a new technical committee”.
“CBF thank the dedication, the seriousness and commitment of the staff while performing the work”, read an official statement published by the CBF on Tuesday.
The defeat saw Brazil crash out of the tournament in the group stage for the first time since 1987.
Dunga said Brazil’s Copa America fate was not decided by football after they bowed out of the competition at the group stage on Sunday.
Tite is set to be named imminently as Dunga’s replacement at the helm of the Brazil team, after the president of Corinthians confirmed his exit.
Hired after the World Cup in 2014, when Brazil lost 7-1 to Germany in the semifinals, Dunga began his second stint as coach with a victory.
“I do not fear dismissal, I am only afraid of death”. The Olympic Gold Medal is the only major footballing trophy that Brazil has been eligible yet never won, and they see this summer’s Games in Rio as the ideal opportunity to make history.
He was sacked in 2010, immediately after Brazil were eliminated by the Netherlands at the quarter-final stage of that year’s World Cup.
The 55-year-old led the club to the Brazilian Serie A title in 2011 and 2015, as well as the Copa Libertadores and World Club Cup in 2012.
He will be tasked with transforming a struggling Brazil in the middle of a lackluster qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup.
