‘Breaking Bad’ actor Steven Michael Quezada runs for seat in
Quezada told the Associated Press on Monday that he will make a formal announcement tomorrow.
This is a change of pace from his former government position in Albuquerque, in the character of DEA Agent Steven Gomez on the AMC series “Breaking Bad”.
Breaking Bad alum Steven Michael Quezada will running to take his experience with Albuquerque law enforcement to the next level: a seat on the Bernalillo County Commission. He’ll run against at least three other candidates, none of whom ever went against Heisenberg.
Already an outspoken member of the community, Quezada recently spoke at a gathering in Albuquerque to discuss how the community fights crime, the Office of the Attorney General’s Third Annual Summit on Community Violence.
Quezada performed at the Comic Strip in East El Paso in early 2014. Concern over the development brought protests from South Valley farmers at commissioners’ meetings. Bernalillo County is now in the midst of controversy regarding development and water scarcity.
Quezada is expected to formally announce his candidacy on Tuesday. The actor said his party needs to reach out to Latino voters, especially when the state counts on the highest percentage of Latino residents in the country. Javier Benavidez is the executive director of the SouthWest Organizing Project, a group that also opposes the development, and he’s glad that Quezada will join the race. “We need leaders who are going to commit to responsible growth and not just recruit new Wal-Marts and chain restaurants”. “I did sit down with Quezada to talk about the race, so I was giving a head’s up”, Pedroza said.
