Breaking Bad-themed cafe Walter’s Coffee Roastery opens in Istanbul
And while you may not be able to get any of the hard stuff Jesse and Walt cooked up, you can help yourself to these convincing, sugary facsimiles.
A “Breaking Bad” themed coffee shop brews the drink on Bunsen burners and serves it in beakers while workers in yellow jumpsuits and respirators roast the beans. There’s a giant periodic table on the wall, beakers are used to serve coffee, and brewing systems are just like the tanks of meth seen on the show.
The crime drama from X-Files writer Vince Gilligan starred Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a brilliant but struggling high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and decides to produce crystal methamphetamine to secure his family’s financial future. It inspired the award-winning prequel Better Call Saul.
Kosan said that the idea originally started between him and his cousin as a joke.
The cafe is meant to resemble a science laboratory.
Deniz Kosan’s locale opened not long ago in the city of Istanbul in Turkey, and it doesn’t take a coffee aficionado to tell it looks nothing like any of the other such shops around the globe.
Not to mention the fact that the wacky shop goes by the name of the Coffee Super Lab or Walter’s Coffee Roastery.
The German-born photographer said he had planned to open the cafe in Brooklyn, but when an investor backed-out, he relocated to Turkey. They even have “blue meth” cupcakes! We bet they’re regretting that decision now.
The powdered sugar – or is it? – on the pancakes makes the most adorable Walter White portraits.
He hopes to expand the concept to the United States and Europe someday.
