Brendan Rodgers has just 10 days to turn Liverpool around
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers would likely be the first premier league manager to be fired this season, he has failed to live up to the expectation of delivering trophies or qualifying the club to the champions league.
The Northern Irishman’s future at the club has been in jeopardy following the side’s disappointing start to the season, with a couple of dodgy displays over the past six matches in the Premier League.
Rodgers insists just one win will get Liverpool’s season back on track.
The Reds have gone four league matches without a win, suffering morale-sapping defeats against West Ham and Manchester United in the process, and needed a penalty shoot-out to avoid an embarrassing loss against fourth tier minnows Carlisle in the League Cup at Anfield on Wednesday.
Earlier this week Liverpool were forced to deny that they had made an approach for former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.
“Any time is good to play Liverpool because it’s such a good experience to go to Anfield”, he added. If you’re not winning, that will intensify.
“When you analyse it, Stoke City away was won by a wonder goal from Philippe Coutinho with nothing in the game and Bournemouth was a tale of all the decisions going to Liverpool“, he continued.
“Maybe if there hadn’t been the Arsenal game, I wouldn’t be here now but I always believe that things happen for a reason”, he said on Monday.
“I’m never complacent enough to think my job has never been (in danger)”.
“What drives a manager on is that positive fear that you need to be at your best”, Rodgers said.
“It doesn’t frighten me and I have an inherent belief in what I do”.
“But my focus is still very much on the now and making us the best we possibly can be”. One win and we’re back around top four. “I hope to be here for a long time”. It has been absolutely fantastic and I’ve loved every minute.
Rodgers has further problems for the visit of Aston Villa to Anfield tomorrow, with Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Dejan Lovren all ruled out, though Daniel Sturridge will return. “Young Firmino landed awkwardly and may have cracked a bone in his back and Dejan Lovren will be out for a few weeks with ligament injury”.
New signing Christian Benteke won’t feature against his former club Villa due to a hamstring complaint and captain Jordan Henderson is out with a broken bone in his foot.
