Brentford postpone Birmingham City clash
A Football League spokesman said: “Brentford proactively approached the League earlier today as the club wishes to re-lay its pitch at the first possible opportunity whilst causing the least possible disruption to the fixture schedule”.
The Bees relayed the playing surface during the close season at Griffin Park, but have taken the drastic step of replacing it after just two home games.
After the match, head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen described the pitch, which had a new undersoil drainage system installed during pre-season, as “a disaster, very bad and unbelievable”.
“All tickets issued for the match next Tuesday will be valid on September 29 and our ticket office staff will be able to refund anyone now unable to make the rearranged date”.
The Bees approached the Football League on Wednesday to ask for the match to be re-arranged, and Birmingham also agreed to the switch. “This will give us a clear window to relay the pitch”, chief executive Mike Devlin told the club’s official website.
The postponement allows Brentford two-and-a-half weeks to carry out works before their next home game, scheduled against Reading on Saturday, 29 August.
Brentford have confirmed that their Championship clash against Birmingham City later this month has been postponed. We have now decided it is best to re-lay it.
