Brewers to hire 30-year-old David Stearns as new GM
According to multiple media reports, Houston Astros assistant GM David Stearns will take over in Milwaukee.
Rosenthal notes that the Brewers are close to completing the process of naming their next general manager.
FoxSports.com earlier reported Stearns’ imminent hiring by the Brewers.
Brewers’ owner Mark Attanasio was believed to be looking for a young, analytical general manager to succeed Doug Melvin, and it looks that’s what he’ll be getting.
Prior to joining the Astros, David served as the Director of Baseball Operations for the Cleveland Indians from 2011-2012.
With the hire, Stearns will become the youngest general manager in the game.
Stearns’ hiring in Milwaukee leaves the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners as Major League Baseball teams still in the market for a GM.
Though he worked under Jeff Luhnow in one of baseball’s more statistically-inclined front offices, Yahoo’s Jeff Passan reports that Stearns is “far from an all-analytics guy”. “I expect over the coming years, as we have success, they’ll get opportunities at least to interview”. The club is expected to announce Stearns as the new general manager at a press conference in the afternoon, according to McCalvy.
