Brian Baldinger on Tim Tebow: ‘He’s not playing well.’
In three games, Tebow has completed 10 of his 19 pass attempts for 97 yards and a 67.2 quarterback rating, whereas Barkley has successfully thrown 23 of his 43 passes for 306 yards. It will be a “big week” for those playing in the game against the New York Jets, coach Chip Kelly said. I don’t believe that statement and I think he’s leaning one way, but he’s open to changing his mind. During this past NFL offseason, many Philadelphia Eagles rumors started to hint that he could possibly see more playing time for the team.
The Eagles got aggressive at logical positions like quarterback (Sam Bradford) and cornerback (Byron Maxwell), and zigged while the rest of the league zagged by spending big bucks at running back. “You cheer each other on, and I think that’s something that comes from trying to care about people, also just from my faith”. And the Eagles tried him on two 2-point conversion attempts Saturday night against Green Bay – both failed. But it’s Tebow, and there’s always this elite potential he’s just bound to finally tap into any second, so I suppose that’s a case made for him.
“I’ll be excited – first start”, Barkley told the Inquirer. To NFL fans everywhere, this is the most meaningless of the four preseason games because most of the starters won’t play.
Bradford has not been in an NFL regular season game since back in 2013 and now he is hoping to stay healthy through the season. Barkley looked the best he has all preseason, while Tebow’s outing was more up-and-down – although he did run for a touchdown in that game.
Tebow’s play also didn’t impress NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger who delivered a harsh review for the football quarterback. How both players perform could provide Kelly with a better idea of who should make the roster. Kelly attacks personnel at the same pace his offense attacks the play clock.
With the brand new two-point conversion rule taking impact this season, Tebow’s means to knock again defenders for large chunks of yardage mixed together with his aggressive spirit figured to be main weapons when Philadelphia go for 2. “But you would have to structure your entire offense around him – and then what happens when he gets hurt; then what are you going to do with your backup QB and your whole team?”
Furthermore, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson said he’s spoken to Kelly about Tebow.
I think Kelly doesn’t want to share his opinion right now because he doesn’t want to distract either Barkley or Tebow. Barkley has been solid this preseason, but it may not be enough to keep the third string job. Just from my faith – yeah, you’re competing for something, but at the same time you want to do it the right way.
