Brian Blessed: I delivered a baby in a park in the 1960s
Brian Blessed has claimed that he once delivered a stranger’s baby in Richmond Park, before biting through the umbilical cord and licking the baby’s face clean.
Umm…what? British actor Brian Blessed, who has had roles in hit films like Star Wars: Episode I, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Alexander, told an interesting (and slightly unsettling) tale during a recent BBC Radio 4 interview.
“Because I had been brought up with babies, coming from a working class background and helping with babies I rushed across to her”. “I was saying “it’s alright darling” and I was licking the baby’s face”.
An unconvinced Purves voiced what a woman might feel after unexpectedly going into labour and seeing Blessed, known for his booming voice, running to their rescue.
If a few woman had a baby delivered in Central Park by say, Donnie Wahlberg, and he chewed through the umbilical and licked all the schmutz off the newborn’s face, I think we’d hear about it before 2065. Yes, I delivered it in Richmond Park and the afterbirth came out, and the clots, I got rid of the clots.
The 78-year-old said he was in the TV police drama Z-Cars at the time of the freaky incident in 1963 at Richmond Park.
An incredulous Purves tried to intervene as he described the situation, asking him: “Brian, am I believing this?”
“It’s absolutely true, I’ve never talked about it”, he continued.
Actor Brian Blessed has revealed today that he delivered a woman’s baby under a tree in a London park. But what I’m saying is, it was natural wasn’t it?
She knew me in Z-Cars.
“[I said] ‘it’s all right dear, breathe deeply, ‘ and gradually I got the baby out”.
Blessed retorted: “You can’t get your head round that, can you?” And now the details of your story will haunt our dreams forever…
