Brian Hoyer Named Texans Starter
The Houston Texans named Brian Hoyer as their starting quarterback, according to multiple reports Monday. Solomon remarked that Hoyer looked “like a frightened rookie” while Mallett did nothing to either lose or gain ground.
“I think at this point there’s definitely things that need to be corrected and get fixed”, Hoyer said after Saturday’s game. “It’s been everything that I could have hoped for”.
Hoyer and Mallett are just two of several former Patriots on a Texans team that also employs defensive lineman Vince Wilfork and coaches Mike Vrabel, Romeo Crennel and O’Brien – all New England alums. Someone explain to me in the comment section below why Texan fans love Ryan Mallett so much. His consistency did too. Hoyer, though, made fewer mistakes.
Will Brian Hoyer be able to help carry the Houston Texans to the playoffs? Murphy was with the Bengals’ practice squad previous year and stayed with them throughout the offseason and training camp before being waived.
In the meantime, the rest of the Texans’ running back corps have not impressed through the start of pre-season. However, both Hoyer and Mallett signed team friendly two year contracts.
The Houston Chronicle’s John McClain expects Arian Foster (groin surgery) to return “no later” than the second half of the season. Mack’s injury and the subsequent issues with the Browns’ offense directly coincided with a dip in Hoyer’s numbers during the latter third of the season.
The Michigan State alumnus had been competing with Ryan Mallett, who started his college career at Michigan, for the job.
Many claimed that another mediocre.500-or-less season was inevitable and others predicted that Hoyer would lose the job after a couple of weeks.
