Brie Larson wins best actress Oscar for ‘Room’
Brie Larson, 26, has won the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Ma, an abducted and imprisoned mother in Lenny Abrahamson’s Room.
BRIE Larson was told she was “not pretty enough” to secure leading roles in Hollywood movies.
“I want to start big because the thing that I love about movie making is how many people it takes to make it”, Larson began before naming her director, team and the critics and film festivals that helped Room grow into a major motion picture. Thank you to everyone who participated in Room.
DiCaprio was favourite at the awards season this year after he picked up the BAFTA and Golden Globe for the Revenant.
Previous roles, often as a supporting actress, spanned comedy and drama such as “21 Jump Street” and “The Spectacular Now (NYSE: DNOW – news)”.
Although Louisville was cheering for our hometown girl to win her second Oscar, this wasn’t Jennifer Lawrence’s year.
While the film is based on a fictional story, it echoes real-life kidnapping victims such as Austria’s Natascha Kampusch, who was held hostage for eight years.
Larson first rose to prominence for 2013’s critically acclaimed Short Term 12, but had a steady career in television prior to that, appearing in Raising Dad and United States of Tara.
Larson can be seen next in the King Kong prequel Kong: Skull Island.
