Britain celebrates Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday

The Queen’s dedication and service to the nation was praised by the Archbishop of Canterbury as her life was celebrated with a service of thanksgiving.

It was a day of reflection on the monarch’s life with the Lord Mayor of London, Jeffrey Mountevans, paying tribute to the Queen’s qualities of “gentleness, good humour and understanding”.

A Guardsman lies face down on the ground after fainting during the Trooping the Colour ceremony for the Queen’s 90th birthday. According to the Press Association, the celebration featured 1,500 soldiers and 300 horses.
Her Majesty, along with other members of the Royal Family, will then make an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the RAF fly-past. Over 400 musicians from different bands and corps of drums all march and play as one.
Next in the lineup is a river pageant on the Thames.

Governors general from the Queen’s realms were also among those invited, along with faith leaders and hundreds of people nominated by Government departments to recognise their service.
Also on Saturday, British singer Rod Stewart was knighted in the Queen’s birthday honors, an annual award of decoration and medals.
On Sunday, the Mall in front of the palace will host lunch for roughly 10,000 charity workers, patrons and members of the royal family.
