British Airways flight diverted for unruly passenger – World – NZ
A police spokesman said: “A man from the United Kingdom is in State Police custody after he allegedly assaulted a woman and caused a disturbance on a transatlantic flight this morning”. After Halliwell was removed from the plane, passengers continued to their destination, police said.
The plane landed a Logan Airport just after noon.
A London-to-Houston flight made an emergency landing in Boston Wednesday because a passenger attacked his wife, officials said.
Halliwell of Aspull, a village in Greater Manchester County, was held in Massachusetts on charges of interfering with a flight crew.
British Airways says the plane was diverted as a precaution and that the flight will continue to Houston as soon as possible.
Police have not disclosed the name of the alleged victim, nor her relationship to Halliwell, “out of respect for her privacy”. WHDH-TV reports the passenger was an intoxicated male who began assaulting his wife on the plane.
“Our customers and crews deserve to enjoy their flights, and not to suffer any form of abuse”, British Airways said in a statement.
‘The matter will now be handled by the police.’.
Halliwell is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday at the East Boston District Court, the station reported.
