Britney Spears is alive, no thanks to hackers
In hopefully one of the last such stories for the year, hacked Sony Music account tweeted a fake announcement that Britney Spears is dead. It appears Sony Music Global erroneously tweeted her death. But, despite a cheeky hack of several Sony-linked Twitter accounts, that person is not Britney Spears. Approximately 45 minutes later, another read, “OurMine checked Britney Spears twitter account if it’s hacked or not and they detected that it’s hacked!”
According to The Independent the original tweet of Sony´s official Twitter account said that pop star Britney Spears died by an accident. After Prince, David Bowie, after Michel Delpech and more recently George Michael, died December 25, 2016 would also take their Britney Spears.
“We don’t know who is our next target”, OurMine told CNET. It’s safe to say that many didn’t believe the tweet but still had to make sure they were clear on the situation.
It then adds, “We have no bad intentions and only care about the security and privacy of your accounts and network”.
The good news is that we can confirm that Britney is alive and well.
Legendary songwriter Bob Dylan was also a victim in the online hack.
Tweets from the Sony account appeared to suggest a connection with OurMine, a group that has previously been connected to hacks of Twitter accounts of other prominent people and organizations.
The group is ostensibly using these high-profile hacks as a way to market and promote its security services.
