Broadway theatergoer tries to recharge phone in onstage plug – Beaumont
A Broadway audience member was heckled after treading the boards to plug his handset into a power outlet, which turned out to be a prop. But the guy who charged the stage at the Booth Theatre to charge his phone in one of the fake electrical outlets on the set of Hand to God takes the cake for generally unusual audience behavior.
The attempt to recharge was, in the end, pointless: The onstage outlet was just a prop, created by Tony Award victor Beowulf Boritt, whose set is a realistic depiction of a basement of a church in Texas.
And another cast member, Sarah Stiles, also tweeted her incredulity.
Okay, so that might not be the most conventional option, but an audience member at Broadway’s Hand to God attempted exactly that before a performance last week.
Co-star Marc Kudisch added: “Dear general audience, an electrical socket that’s a part of the set of the play is NOT for you to charge your iPhone…just an FYI…”
Eyewitness Chris York wrote about the incident on Facebook, saying that the crew stopped the play and removed the man’s phone before making an announcement about why it wasn’t allowed. “Moron. Has theatre etiquette – check, Common Sense – [really] fallen that far??”
