Broncos Cornerback Aqib Talib Suspended 1 Game For Eye Poke
According to Mike Klis of 9News in Denver, Talib has been suspended by the National Football League for one game for his actions in Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. Talib was slapped with a very costly 15-yard penalty for poking Allen in the eye.
Talib said following the game the eye-poke was accidental.
Yeah, if that’s an accident, then Talib must be the worst Operation player of all time; a two-year-old has better hand-eye coordination. While the incident sparked quite a bit of tweets on the Twitter Universe for the past 24-plus hours, I hope that poke was worth it. I half-expected Talib to later drop an anvil on Allen’s head while wearing an Acme-branded Velcro suit. He acted like he got into an 18-passenger auto wreck.
When pushed that he had poked the player in the eye he added: “All right, well, it was an honest mistake”.
“You’re taught since little league football to play to the whistle within the boundaries of the game”, Allen said.
“I don’t even remember, man”, Talib told USA Today. “I was just mad”. I was 10 yards away from the guy, clapping my hands.
The Colts took the penalty, Vinatieri lost three points and one final kneel-down by Andrew Luck ended the game. When you’re beefing with someone else, as Von Miller is, and your guy just waltzes over and gives the other guy the two-fingered eye gouge like he’s Hacksaw Jim Duggan.
Offering further explanation, Talib said his reaction was mostly of the knee-jerk variety and came from a place of frustration.
“I thought we did a great job of keeping our composure in the second half, thought we got ourselves in a position to win”, Kubiak said. “Game gets chippy and both sides are talking”.
