Broncos Deny Report Of Peyton Manning Not Wanting To Be Backup
Given the gravity of their situation, it’s understandable if the Broncos at least consider going back to Manning, even though the quarterback is not 100 percent healthy. “It does not sound like he is inclined to be Brock Osweiler’s backup”.
On Sunday night, following the Broncos’ 34-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Manning was asked for a response to the report as he exited the locker room to speak to Steelers owner Dan Rooney.
There are reports coming from National Football League insider Ian Rapoport that Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has no interest in being a backup. “It probably feels best when you’re not on it. In order to be able to play, you’ve got to be able to stay on the field for a full week of practice”. “And No. 2, it’s insulting”.
Manning returned to practice last week, working in Wednesday’s and Thursday’s practice but did not practice Friday because of what Kubiak termed “some soreness”. But the noteworthiness of this report may be in the vehemence of its denials.
According to the source, Manning was told by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte last month that, if the problem continues for a year, surgery becomes the best option.
“It is a trying time for Peyton Manning, who has always been a starter his entire career”, Rapoport said. However, there is no indication that Rapoport ever reported any demands being made by Manning, only that “there are plenty of people who know that Peyton does not want to be the backup”.
Kubiak said Osweiler was “sore today… and all indications are that he’ll be OK”.
Still, there’s the nagging issue of an offense that for two weeks running has gone silent as QB Brock Osweiler struggled – while the rest of the offense didn’t offer much support – and a certain Hall of Fame quarterback continued to recover from a foot injury.
