Broncos hand Patriots first loss in overtime
“There were a lot of plays last night that just didn’t necessarily end up the way that we would had hoped, and there was a lot of things we could have done better”, he said.
Brady was solid on the other side as usual, passing for 280 and three touchdowns. Brady is throwing to Brandon LaFell, Scott Chandler and a bunch of completely unproven players.
But what might be remembered most about it all was Gronkowski’s latest in a long series of injuries.
On Sunday morning, Brady posted this picture of himself throwing a pass while riding a bronco in preparation for Sunday’s game. He finished with 113 yards and 2 touchdowns.
CARDINALS 19, 49ERS 13 (at Santa Clara, Calif.) – Carson Palmer ran for a go-ahead 8-yard touchdown with 2:28 left as the Cardinals (9-2) won their fifth game in a row.
According to several reports, an MRI showed Gronkowski suffered a minor knee strain.
“We’ll keep fighting”, Brady said.
The only thing that the loss did for the Patriots was take pressure off of them. It’s always tough losing great players, and obviously knowing what he’s been through in his career when you see him laying there it’s very tough to see. Heading into the final game of that season, the Patriots were under huge pressure to complete the flawless season, and that was part of what led to their demise. As time expired, kicker Stephen Gostkowski drilled a 47-yard field amidst the snow flurries to send the game into overtime.
Manning put up some impressive numbers his first three years in Denver, throwing for 4,659 yards with 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in his first season; an National Football League record 5,477 yards with an National Football League record 55 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in his second season when he won his fifth MVP award, and 4,727 yards with 39 touchdowns and 15 picks last year. Osweiler kept the drive alive with a 3-yard sneak on a fourth-and-1 play.
It isn’t like Osweiler was Tom Brady on Sunday, but his play did help defeat a depleted Patriots team that had Brady opposing him, and it is fun to see and hear that in just his second start, the Denver coaching staff has the confidence in Osweiler to allow him to make the checks like he does.
“They didn’t call that”, Brady said. And then they got the ball and scored the touchdown. The Broncos also missed a field goal, threw an interception in the red zone, lost two key pieces of their defense in TJ Ward and Sylvester Williams as well as their best offensive lineman in Louis Vasquez. Chris Harper fumbled a punt, and Broncos linebacker Shaquil Barrett recovered at the New England 36. It seemed like Thomas wasn’t really trying that hard, which is easy for me to say as a couch observer.
“I hate to see it, but it’s really the only way for defenders to hit now”.
With that, New England lost its aura of invincibility – both on the field and on social media.
