Broncos have it easy in San Diego
The San Diego Chargers have now been easily stomped on by all three of their division rivals, despite what the score may say in two of those games, and have no chance of escaping this nightmare season with a. 500 record. They’re the better team and they have more to play for than the Chargers, who are 3-9 on the season. If there is any hope of winning this game, it comes down to Philip Rivers, Danny Woodhead, Malcom Floyd, and Antonio Gates having career games to even have a shot.
Maybe that’s the most depressing part.
“When you have nine of them, they all hurt at this point because there have been so many”, he said. As the final drive for the Chargers continued, Rivers continued to talk smack at Miller after most every play.
Then they got a remarkably easy victory against the hapless San Diego Chargers. Kubiak met the media Monday afternoon after the Broncos 17-3 in San Diego Sunday.
NOTES: The Chargers reluctantly confirmed reports they extended general manager Tom Telesco’s contract during the summer.
“I don’t think he was happy with the cologne I was wearing. He does a good job”.
How bad is this? After all, it would benefit a future that, at this point, doesn’t figure to be theirs but probably will belong to Los Angeles, instead.
On the season, the Kansas City Chiefs average 227.0 yards in passing and 124.3 yards in rushing.
Yet the opportunities were there Sunday.
Rivers ticked off the accomplishments of the Denver defense like he was checking down defensive players on the line.
Denver came out strong on their first possession, methodically driving the field in under four minutes with Brock Osweiler ending it with a touchdown pass to a wide open Demaryius Thomas.
On San Diego’s third possession, Rivers was hit and the ball went straight to Trevathan. Trevathan made the interception at the Chargers 25 and had a clear path to the end zone.
“I can’t tell you”, Rivers said after being asked why it’s been so hard to score points at home.
“Obviously, the throw’s not good”.
A 51-yard Josh Lambo field goal was all that separated the Broncos from their first shutout in a decade.
But the opening touchdown proved to be the first and last for the offense.
Von Miller and Darian Stewart recovered second-half fumbles as the Broncos shut out the Chargers after the break.
How deflating were those plays?
“They (offense) sturggled today, but defensively I feel like we did what we had to do”, Jason Verrett said.
If only it were that simple.
