Broncos linebacker Von Miller earns Super Bowl MVP honours
Well, Norman held strong on his sheriff comments, saluting Manning after the final Broncos drive of the game, with the Denver victory all but secured.
Denver’s 24-10 victory against Carolina at Levi’s Stadium provided the storybook ending to Manning’s record-shattering career, in all likelihood sending the league’s all-time leading passer off into a shower of golden confetti and the sunset with an upset few outside of the Rocky Mountains dared to predict or even envision.
The Broncos defense – lead by Super Bowl MVP Von Miller who accounted for 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles – sacked regular season MVP Cam Newton seven times and kept him under duress for the entirety of the game.
The defense constantly put pressure on Panthers quarterback Cam Newton throughout the game, sacking the league’s newly crowned MVP six times. He lost two fumbles, threw an interception and failed to produce a touchdown for the only time this season.
Miller dabbed in the end zone in front of legions of orange-clad Broncos fans after Denver’s first defensive touchdown in a Super Bowl. We get to play The Sheriff.
Manning may well do the same, but he wasn’t going to one-up his teammates or his employer by breaking news at a postgame press conference. It gives Manning his second Super Bowl ring after triumphing with the Colts in Super Bowl XLI.
So it was left to the Broncos to have the last word at the end of the night that vindicated Kubiak and Elway’s decision to hire unemployed Wade Phillips as the Broncos defensive coordinator.
It was a far cry from two years ago, when the Broncos were routed by Seattle 43-8.
