Broncos sticking with Osweiler, but Manning may practice
Peyton Manning will return to practice this week with the Denver Broncos, but Brock Osweiler will remain the starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced Tuesday night.
On Monday, Kubiak hinted at his plans for his QBs, but said he wasn’t prepared to say if Manning could return to practice or whether Osweiler would start against the Steelers (8-5).
After missing four games due to a foot injury, Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has practiced for two straight days.
“Well, it was unusual, for sure, but I’m happy to see him out there getting some reps”, outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett said.
Kubiak said Thursday that he liked what he saw from Manning after practices on Wednesday and Thursday. “… We’re a football team and we go about our day that way all the time”. In his place, fourth-year quarterback Brock Osweiler has led the Broncos to a 3-1 record and has been a better fit in general for Gary Kubiak’s West Coast offense.
For the season, the Broncos’ offense ranks 17th in scoring with 21.6 points per game. He last participated in Broncos’ practice on November 13.
It sounds like Peyton Manning won’t be sidelined for much longer in Denver. But he said Manning took a “step in the right direction” in his return from a torn plantar fascia in his left foot Wednesday.
The Patriots signed former Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball to their practice squad. If Roby is tasked with containing Wheaton, look for Ben Roethlisberger to test the second-year cornerback – who happens to be the only one of the Broncos’ top three cornerbacks who has not been to a Pro Bowl. Week 15 sees the Broncos face the Bengals in a key AFC game that could decide playoff seeding – expect Manning then.
“It is a trying time for Peyton Manning, who has always been a starter his entire career”, Rapoport said. “My whole goal is just make her a trust-fund baby”. But is Osweiler’s time under center coming to an end? In that game, Osweiler completed 35-of-51 passes for 308 yards but could not find the end zone. “If we went out to practice today, absolutely nothing has changed today”.
Denver’s eight-game winning streak over the Raiders ended despite allowing just 126 yards of offense, including 27 yards on 24 rushes.
2, the Broncos quarterback was evasive when asked about when exactly his injury occurred, calling timelines “irrelevant”.
