Pakistan social media sensation Qandeel Baloch has been killed, police said on Saturday, in the latest incident of so-called “honour” killing in the country.
Pakistani model Qandeel Baloch was killed in her family home in the country’s Punjab province after posting pictures of herself with a prominent Muslim cleric.
Her candid videos, pictures and commentary on her personal life stirred controversy in conservative, Muslim-majority Pakistan, but garnered her many fans online.
Qandeel Baloch, 26, was found dead in her home in Pakistan on Friday, the victim of a suspected strangling.
After news of the killing surfaced, Baloch’s brother is now on the run, and the case of the social media star is being investigated by police.
Waseem said that Qandeel has defamed the name of Balochis due to which he murdered her.
On the morning she was murdered, Qandeel had shared a picture of herself staring defiantly into the camera, wearing a pair of leopard print trousers and a black tank top. Baloch had a large following of more than 700,000 people on her official Facebook page.
She joined other liberals in Pakistan who called for anti-honour killing legislation.

But many grieved, saying she had helped the cause of women in a society where they are often banned from working or even appearing in public in ultra-conservative areas.
Earlier, he confessed to killing her and expressed no remorse for the crime. Among her posts was a racy video she danced in for a popular rap song that went viral.
In addition to physical evidence though, her parents confirmed that one of her six brothers was indeed responsible for her death.
Baloch reached out to the Interior Ministry for her own security concerns, but she was denied.
