Brothers charged in death of National Basketball Association star Dwyane Wade’s cousin
Aldridge was hit when the suspects opened fire at the intended target, a driver of a vehicle who told authorities he worked for Uber and was dropping off passengers.
Chicago has seen its murder toll skyrocket this year. “This reprehensible act of violence is the example of why we need to change the way we treat habitual offenders in the city of Chicago”.
The brothers have been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. “Of the challenge we face here, in Chicago, with repeat gun offenders that don’t care who they shoot”.
Wade, who grew up on the city’s South Side, has been outspoken over the years about the violence in his hometown.
“Bullets that fly around that have no name made a decision to find its way to her head”, said Wade’s mother, Jolinda, a pastor.
Aldridge’s death reshapes the focus of Wade’s return to Chicago after spending 13 years in Miami as a member of the Heat.
As the news station notes, Aldridge’s death is not the first time Wade’s Chicago family has grappled with gun violence.
Wade said on Twitter late Friday that Aldridge was his cousin. “We ought to be extending our sympathy to the family – that’s the only reaction that is appropriate right now, and maybe a sadness about this gun violence issue, which we know is complicated”, Kaine said.
“It just hurts to hear kids saying they want their mom and their mom won’t be in their lives anymore”, the grandmother told Crane on Sunday, fighting back tears. The YOUTH! These young kids are screaming for help!
It is not the first time Dwyane Wade‘s family in Chicago has been touched by gun violence.
Wade’s nephew Darin Johnson was one of six people shot by two gunmen in a South Side convenience store in 2012.
Pence sidestepped questions about the flow of guns into IL from his state. Chicago police have said a fifth of the guns used in Chicago crimes are from Indiana. “African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!” the Republican presidential nominee tweeted Saturday, misspelling the National Basketball Association star’s name.
Aldridge was identified on Friday by the Chicago Bulls franchise, where her cousin Dwyane Wade recently signed to play in July. After news of his cousin’s death, he labeled the incident “senseless”. “I forgive them”, she said. The Tribune reported that at least one of the brothers fired several shots, which struck Aldridge instead.
Aldridge was later pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.
Jones said two people are being questioned by the police about the shooting, and several other people in the vicinity were interviewed.
He later added, “My condolences to Dwyane Wade and his family, on the loss of Nykea Aldridge”.
The family has also established a trust fund for her four children.
