Brown: Hard to let down Scotland’s Strachan
Strachan will also be without the experience of Celtic skipper Scott Brown, who chose to retire from global football last week. He brought me to Celtic and he means so much to me.
The Celtic striker has continued where he left off following his 40-goal return last season and impressed Strachan in the 5-2 Champions League win over Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
“We spoke and it was wonderful to be honest”.
Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has insisted that his side still have a strong midfield despite the recent retirement of Scott Brown.
He said: “I need to look after my body and try to play at this club as long as I can”.
Gordon Strachan’s side begin their qualification campaign for the next World Cup in 2018 with a relatively handy tie against bottom seeds Malta on September 4th.
“But I have got to think what is best for the whole group”. “It’s one of our stronger areas”.
“I’ve done 11 hard seasons going away on global breaks, not seeing family, not having the chill-out time”.
“It will be quieter”.
“So, I think it’s a good time for me to call it a day”. We thank him for what he did.
As well as McKay, Strachan has picked three other players who have one cap after recently being promoted from the Scotland under-age teams – Kieran Tierney, Callum Paterson and John McGinn.
“His decision is for the best of Scott Brown”. At times in your career you go: ‘What’s the best for me?
“And he has decided at this moment in time that this will be the best for him”.
