Browns acquire QB Osweiler from Broncos

Stills led Miami previous year with nine touchdown catches. He was given $17 million in guarantees. He’s played so little football over the last few seasons, and will have a hard time trying to sell any team on bringing him in to start.

But the 26-year-old signal caller may not be in Cleveland for long.

After years of being criticized for not keeping their own, the Browns retained Joel Bitonio with a contract extension.

They have a great number one wide receiver in DeAndre Hopkins and a steady running back in Lamar Miller. This was also a good trade for the Texans.

Although Osweiler has three more years left on his contract, the only money that’s guaranteed is his $16 million salary for 2017.

Polian went on to further criticize the trade and mock the Browns, saying the deal was based on a “fiction”, with that fiction being the idea that the Browns actually traded for a player.

If recently acquired Brock Osweiler gets a shot to quarterback the Browns, it appears he won’t be competing against Robert Griffin III. A couple late-round picks are also being swapped.

This Osweiler trade doesn’t make the Browns a guarantee to trade for Garoppolo, although they remain the Patriots best hope. This is often the type of trade you see in the National Basketball Association. They signed Chargers halfback Danny Woodhead and re-signed Ryan Mallett, their backup quarterback. Cleveland, who has a ton of salary cap room, might ultimately trade or release him anyway. The Browns are expected to try and package the extra picks for QB Jimmy Garappolo. It means that Romo is still in limbo and his two biggest suitors have the next move to make. They feel they have a championship caliber roster but they don’t have a quarterback.

With those numbers in mind, it’s apparent the Browns aren’t counting on him to be their next franchise quarterback — or even start next season.
