Browns in no rush to make decision on Johnny Manziel
Quarterback Johnny Manziel will be summoned for talks with Cleveland Browns after skipping scheduled medical treatment.
“I know a lot’s been written about him”, Brown said during a press conference.
Brown told ESPN’s Tony Grossi that he had the final say on the Browns roster. “He understands what’s ahead of him and what he needs to do to have a career in this league and with the Browns”.
Brown said the team still plans to sit down with Manziel before determining the signal-caller’s future.
The decision regarding Manziel’s future will also come down to what new coach Hue Jackson thinks.
He added that the team’s hands are somewhat tied when it comes to what it can require Manziel to do in the offseason in terms of his off-field issues. These reports claimed that one of Jackson’s stipulations when he accepted the job was that he could get rid of Manziel and move on with his own QB.
Brown said he was “confident” his message was well received. The team is focused on getting the coaching staff squared away and doesn’t yet have to do anything with Manziel, who is under contract, or Gordon, who has yet to be reinstated.
