Browns introduce Hue Jackson as head coach

Since 1963, the Browns have had 15 head coaches, and only three of them had head coaching experience in the National Football League when they were hired: Nick Skorich (1971), Eric Mangini (2009) and now Jackson. The former Bengals offensive coordinator will be Cleveland’s fifth head coach since 2009.

Hue Jackson is the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns. “I’ve already rolled up my sleeves and I’m ready to go”.

“He’s got a great offensive mind, he’s got a tremendous track record developing quarterbacks….” Coaches are consistent in how they teach and how they do things that are always the most successful, even if that drives media people insane and even if that drives the people around them insane.

“We felt great about things”, Haslam said.

Peter King of Sports Illustrated on January 4 wrote the Browns are “so done” with Manziel after Manziel was spotted in Las Vegas the Saturday before the Browns finished the season with a home game against the Steelers. “I know what I signed up for”.

The Browns interviewed seven coaching candidates, including Adam Gase, who eventually filled the Miami Dolphins’ opening.

“I know what Hue Jackson can do, and I feel very comfortable and confident that I can get it turned”, Jackson said. In 2011 he was head coach of the Oakland Raiders, whose organizational dysfunction in this century almost matches that of the Browns. “I think he’s proven himself to be a very good teacher, has a very good handle on our offense”.

The first couple of months next season are going to be the honeymoon period, with the Cleveland Browns fan base buying into the regime change and thinking this is finally the year.

Johnny Manziel’s future in the National Football League remains unclear. What I’m most excited about, when I think of Jimmy and Dee and the commitment to me and the commitment we have for this building for our players and what we’re trying to accomplish, there is non other. “I don’t know Johnny personally”.

So has as the door has opened for Jackson, it will close for Manziel in Cleveland. A former college quarterback at Pacific, Jackson pushed Dalton to his best statistical season and was known for his creative flair with unbalanced lines and unorthodox formations.

Jackson will be the Browns’ 12th full-time coach I’ve covered since I started in 1981 and I’ve never seen anything like it. I pulled into the parking lot across the street about five minutes before Haslam arrived in a black SUV, driving Jackson from the airport.

“On Jan. 3, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam spoke about the franchise”™s quest for a bona fide franchise quarterback and added, “We do have the second pick in the draft.”. Did either team make the right choice in their hire, did one not make the right choice?

The team will introduce Jackson at an evening news conference at their facility in Berea, Ohio.

This speaks to the Browns’ new front office of analytically oriented executives such as Paul DePodesta and Sashi Brown having the same feelings about their new coach. Jackson has a big job ahead of him, but he’s clearly not afraid of the challenge.

“I know what Hue Jackson can do”, he said.
