Browns’ Johnny Manziel Under Police Investigation For Domestic Violence Claim
Manziel’s agent also released a statement Friday saying he was cutting ties with his client.
“Johnny has not responded to us”, Haslam told reporters in San Francisco, the site of Super Bowl 50, “but we will do everything we can to help him personally…”
“We wish to give Johnny as much support as he is willing to receive, we can’t make anyone do anything”, Troy Vincent, the NFL’s executive vice president of football operations, said Saturday before the NFL Honors show.
Ditka said he would sit Manziel down and tell him the limitations he must work within because of the code of responsibility that goes with playing in the NFL. The woman claimed Manziel hit her several times to prevent her from getting out of the vehicle, while downplaying the incident.
“Today, the Dallas Police Department received a complaint of a domestic violence assault that occurred in Dallas on January 30, 2016″, the police statement reads. The statement listed the Cleveland Browns quarterback as the suspect and said detectives would investigate and determine whether criminal charges were warranted. They noted it is not uncommon for victims of domestic violence to question or delay reporting an assault.
The Dallas police department is relaunching an investigation into his latest incident with girlfriend Colleen Crowley. Police have not revealed details of the report, but say they will thoroughly investigate to see if criminal charges should be filed.
Meanwhile, Manziel’s agent parted ways with the quarterback in the wake of the latest news, and Manziel’s family is concerned for his well-being. An officer finally contacted Manziel’s father, Paul, who said he had seen his son and that “he was doing fine”.
Goodell also said he is pushing to require the ejection of any player who is flagged for two personal fouls in a game.
Johnny Manziel entered the National Football League with a party-boy reputation.
Manziel spent months in a drug and alcohol treatment center last offseason and publicly apologized for his antics, but Manziel was caught drinking on video numerous times throughout the 2015 season, and was even spotted in Las Vegas on the eve of the Browns’ season finale.
The Associated Press left messages seeking comment for Manziel, his parents and a lawyer who represented the player when he was at Texas A&M. Worth, there were rumors that the Cleveland Browns were looking for a new quarterback.
“His family and I have gone to great lengths to outline the steps we feel he must take to get his life in order”, Burkhardt continued.
