Browns’ Josh McCown done for season with broken collarbone
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Kamar Aiken celebrates after scoring a 15-yard touchdown in the second half of an NFL football game against the Cleveland Browns, Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, in Cleveland.
Manziel, who was listed as active for the game with the Ravens, reportedly lied and told the Browns the video was old.
Coach Mike Pettine would not discuss whether Austin Davis or Johnny Manziel will start Sunday against Cincinnati. He did the best he could while also serving as a mentor to Manziel, who was recently given the starting job and then had it taken from him for off-field behavior. Josh McCown started last Monday’s game but is out for the season after suffering a broken collarbone.
“Terrelle is here because he showed that promise and that potential, but again, I said once you make (the 53-man roster) that you have to be a productive member of the team, ” Pettine said.
Prior to Week 12, Manziel had been named the season starter, but social media pictures of the quarterback partying in Texas ended that idea. “These are two players that we both want to see play is the bottom line”.
“Probably one of the toughest guys that I’ve ever played with”, Davis said. When McCown was injured, he sent Davis into the game. He played well for the Browns, but struggled with a concussion, a rib injury and now the collarbone injury during the season. Would Pettine go with Manziel or Davis? McCown signed a three year deal with the Browns back in February. “I can not say enough positive things about Josh McCown and what he’s done for this football team and what he means to this football team”.
“I’ve heard that number tossed around”, Davis said when asked about a number that perhaps best underscores this franchise’s continued woes. His 42-yard touchdown pass to Travis Benjamin with 1:47 remaining tied the game at 27.
Already without the services of starting quarterback Sam Bradford because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee suffered in a preseason game against the Browns last August, the Rams started Shaun Hill under center. Pettine said acquiring a third quarterback is “on the table for discussion”.
