Browns quarterback Josh McCown bruises hand, holds onto job
A 27-20 win over the Cleveland Browns Sunday was significant on several fronts.
Both of them are onto something about their current team.
The finish was frustrating, but the stuck-in-the-mud start is what stuck with the Browns.
I think (Whitner) would be the first to tell you hes been inconsistent, Pettine said. So far this year he’s upped his game considerably.
And it is a string of futility that is finally over. However, the Raiders did drive down the field to earn that win and it was a good momentum builder for this young team.”The only thing I’ve heard about our road record has been from people outside this building, ” left tackle Donald Penn said.I don’t need to go much into the resume of Sebastian Janikowski.
“All the time”, Woodson said. Cooper, again, was huge in a victory over Cleveland as he was last week as well against the Baltimore Ravens. The Raiders rushed for a total of five first downs in their first two games.
Raiders hit road for first time this season…. It is also giving hope to fans around the world that the better days GM Reggie McKenzie has been promising since he took on the job have finally arrived. He can also operate around hard press coverage situations and still find a way to get the ball to his playmakers.
Instead, what seems just as puzzling to me is how the Browns treated McCown on Sunday compared to how they treated Manziel two Sundays ago. The balanced attack makes quarterback Derek Carr more effective. And he’s playing like the franchise quarterback the Raiders believe him to be.
Tight ends have now caught 21 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns against Oakland this season. Opposing quarterbacks have a 102.9 passer rating.
“I feel like I let my team down, and that is one thing I don’t want to do”, Benjamin said.
No change: The top of Josh McCown’s right hand was cut and still swollen on Monday, the result, he thinks, of getting it stepped on during a sack in the third quarter of the 27-20 loss to the Oakland Raiders. Pettine bemoaned a slow start and poor tackling as the main culprits against the Raiders, who led 17-3 at halftime and 27-10 early in the fourth before the Browns rallied. Latavius Murray is needed as a rushing relief valve that can occasionally break out (Sunday, 26 carries for 139 yards).
“It was one of those balls I’ve got to catch”, Benjamin said. He distributed the ball to eight players and threw two touchdown passes.
As good as a victory – and exorcism – as it was, it wasn’t without its dark clouds.
Woodson’s teammates, even on the offensive side of the ball, say that his choice to play hurt and his ability to play well should never be underestimated as a morale tool. “If that was the case, where you didn’t like one, he’d go out there the next day and run 100 of them to make sure you liked it”. Sign up today. I just didn’t put enough on the ball… we would have had a shot.
Oakland’s Charles Woodson had a specific motivation Sunday against Cleveland. He returned six punts for 154 yards – including a 78-yard touchdown – and made three catches for 115 yards, with scoring receptions of 60 and 50 yards. “You can’t fall behind in the National Football League and expect to play well late and then win”.
It’s still a problem for this Raiders defense that hasn’t been remedied yet.
They regularly don’t spend unnecessary valuable valuable time. They were able to hold a lead throughout the entire game, and won the all important giveaway/takeaway ratio 2-1; this included a clutch game sealing pick by Charles Woodson in the 4th quarter. He didn’t do much with two opportunities, one of which went for a 9-yard loss.
