Browns sign kicker Cody Parkey; Patrick Murray to IR
The Browns’ incredible week of injuries continues.
To make room for Parkey on the 53 man active roster, the Browns placed kicker Patrick Murray on injured reserve due to a knee injury.
According to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, head coach Hue Jackson said the team will have to bring in another kicker if Murray is unable to play on Sunday when they visit Miami. The Browns now have six starters injured since the beginning of the 2016 regular season.
The Browns had to make a move when Murray hurt his left knee kicking on Friday.
He missed most of the 2015 season with a groin injury. Quarterbacks Robert Griffin III (broken hand), Josh McCown (broken collarbone), centre Cam Erving (bruised lung), wide receiver Corey Coleman (broken hand) and defensive end Carl Nassib (broken hand) are all out this week and a few of them will be sidelined for several more games.
Parkey converted 32 of 36 field goal attempts and all 54 extra points.
Parkey scored 150 points in 2014, breaking not only the National Football League rookie record but also the Eagles’ franchise record.
Parkey lost a training camp competition in Philadelphia this year.
With Griffin and McCown out, rookie quarterback Cody Kessler will make his National Football League regular-season debut in Miami.
