Browns to hire Hue Jackson as head coach, per Adam Schefter

Thomas has been the subject of trade rumors in recent years, while Thomas himself stated after Week 17 that the season might’ve been his last in Cleveland. They’re saying ‘Hue, will you help me get to the Cleveland Browns.

Haslam said Jackson has all the qualities that will provide strong leadership for the team.

“I am going to say this again because you will see when you hear from him and you will see it when you are around him, he is very, very competitive”.

“If I didn’t think there was a chance to do something special here, I wouldn’t be here”, said Jackson, who said that during his interview, Haslam admitted, “I’ve had success in most things in my life – except this”.

Jackson will be the Browns’ fourth coach since Jimmy Halsam took over in October, 2012 and any comfort level between him and Pat Shurmur, Rob Chudzinski or Mike Pettine was short-lived.

Jackson spent the past two seasons as offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals.

This may be the second time in as many months the Browns have cost the 49ers a head coach.

“We got the right guy for the Cleveland Browns”, said Haslam. “Dee and I warmly welcome Hue and his family to Cleveland”.

Maybe Jackson’s best coaching job was with McCarron, as the former Alabama quarterback played in the final four games of the season with three straight starts.

ESPN reported that Manziel was a topic of discussion between the head coach and the organization during meetings leading up to Jackson’s hiring, and that the former Bengals coordinator expressed his preference that the team move on from the former Texas A&M quarterback. If current head coach Marvin Lewis was indeed let go this offseason or even in the near future, you’d have to imagine that Jackson would be the first man to be interviewed and the top candidate for the job.

Jackson, 50, will certainly have an uphill battle as he takes over a team that is regarded as one of the worst in the NFL.

Jackson had also interviewed with the San Francisco 49ers and was scheduled to meet later this week with the New York Giants, but Haslam was not going to be outbid for a coach he coveted.

If Hue Jackson can finally make a victor out of the Cleveland Browns, then he will be considered a legend.

Jackson was a fan favorite among Browns fans.

With the Cincinnati Bengals, Hue Jackson has one of the best quarterbacks in the National Football League in Andy Dalton.

“I don’t know Johnny personally”, Jackson said.

Whether the audience was relatively small in front of Browns employees or massive in front of viewers across the country on NFL Network and local Cleveland news stations at his evening press conference, Jackson’s message carried the same theme.

Perhaps the only question regarding Manziel now is: Where will his next National Football League stop be?

The scene was unforgettable, and as far as I know, unprecedented. “What an exciting time to have an opportunity to work with people like that”.

Following his dismissal in the Bay Area, Jackson returned to the Bengals, where he coached their wide receivers from 2004-06.
