Bruins lose in OT again; Senators grab series lead
Defenseman John-Michael Liles had two assists for Boston.
Zdeno Chara, the oft-maligned 40-year-old Bruins captain, certainly will be out to make amends for his late Game 2 gaffe, a delay of game penalty when he flung the puck over the glass with 12.5 seconds left in regulation, ultimately leading to the Senators’ overtime goal that tied the series at one game each.
The next two games will go a long way in deciding this series for the Senators.

It was the Senators’ turn to play fast and loose with the lead after taking the Bruins to school and leading by three goals before four minutes had elapsed in the second period. Both teams had 29 shots on goal while the hits were 53-51 for the Bruins and the faceoffs were 27-23 in favor of Ottawa. “When it’s 3-3 after the second period, it’s a great opportunity for everybody”.
Craig Anderson made 17 saves in the Ottawa goal while Rask had 28 saves for Boston.
After opening the scoring with a highlight of the night goal on a hail mary pass from Erik Karlsson to spring Mike Hoffman for a breakaway, that he finished with the “Forsberg”, Derick Brassard notched his second in as many games just 25 seconds later. We expected that. We’re focused on tomorrow’s game now.
Tyler Bozak scored 1:37 into overtime to cap Toronto’s comeback from two goals down in the second period, and the Maple Leafs beat the Washington Capitals 4-3 Monday night to take a 2-1 lead in the first-round series.
MacArthur tied the score 70 seconds later with the Senators on a power play.
Of those six goals and 13 points, three goals and five points came in 22 games following the switch from Claude Julien to Cassidy. There’s 1950, then there’s 2000 and 2001, then 2006 and 2007, and the worst there ever was of them all, 1997. “The crowd kind of willed them into it”.
The story was different in Game 2. Hoffman lit the lamp for the second time to open up the game 3-0.
It is the second straight game in the series that has gone to overtime, with Dion Phaneuf scoring 1:59 in Saturday’s extra period to send the Sens to a 4-3 victory in Game 2.
CHICAGO – Pekka Rinne made 30 saves in his second consecutive shutout and picked up two assists, helping the Nashville Predators pound the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2-0 lead in their first-round playoff series. When Chris Wideman’s shot from the point slipped under his glove in the third period, Rask seemed to lose his composure.
But the Bruins battled back, and quickly.
The thinking was that with hard-hitting Noel Acciari entering the series in Game 3 and the B’s holding last change at home in Boston, things would get a lot more challenging for Karlsson.
Awful timing: The 40-year-old Chara appeared exhausted with time winding down in the third period as he attempted to chip the puck off the glass and out of his own zone. When looking at the Bruins lineup in game one, and in game two, it’s clear the team was decimated by injury.
And the Bruins were not done yet.
