Bruins make two trades before National Hockey League trade deadline
In exchange for Liles, the Bruins send a 3rd and 5th round pick (year unknown) and prospect Anthony Camara. A third-round selection, 81st overall, of the Bruins in the 2013 NHL Draft, Camara completed a four-year Ontario Hockey League (OHL) career with Saginaw and Barrie prior to turning professional, totaling 122 points (66g, 56a) in 245 games.
After acquiring veteran puck-moving defenseman John-Michael Liles, they added another veteran presence at forward, acquiring Lee Stempniak from the New Jersey Devils for two draft picks – a 2017 second-rounder and a 2016 fourth-rounder.
This was the third year in a row that Stempniak was moved at the trade deadline.
Stempniak, 33, had 16 goals and a team-high 31 points in 63 games for the Devils, his first season with the club. The Bruins will have their work cut out for them if they intend of competing with teams like Tampa Bay, Florida, Washington, and in the Western Conference, Los Angeles, Anaheim, and Chicago come playoff time. With Loui Eriksson still on the team, it is unclear if the team plans to sign him to an extension or ride out his contract year before letting him walk to free agency. In his AHL career, Camara has 12 goals and 23 assists in 150 games. Neither Liles or Stempniak is a major piece for the future, but for now, they give the Bruins a better chance of holding onto their playoff spot. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound power forward had one goal, no assists and was a minus-9 in 20 games this season.
Talbot and Rinaldo were placed on waivers this weekend, while Kemppainen was sent down to make room on the roster for the two new acquisitions and the return of Randell. The latest episode is below!
