Bruno Mars confirms Super Bowl performance
Such was the frenetic energy of the halftime show, Beyonce was jokingly credited with sparking the power outage which left the New Orleans stadium in darkness for 35 minutes.
Lead singer Chris Martin added the show will be about “togetherness and acceptance and the things we really believe in”.
At a news conference Thursday, the band’s members said they will have the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles there to represent the future and Beyoncé – whose 2013 performance they adore – for the past. If you remember, Queen Bey took her own Super Bowl turn in the spotlight just three years ago where, incredibly, she reunited with her Destiny’s Child group mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
That will be followed by Ozarks Live – featuring Super Bowl food. Drake is a natural fit who could also probably headline the event one day, but with only “Hotline Bling” to show for truly mainstream songs that could tap into an older demographic, he’s forced into a supporting role this time around. One thing it will be lacking is sharks.
It was revealed that Beyonce is unsurprisingly a perfectionist when it comes to her musical performances.
Coldplay, who recently released their seventh studio album “A Head Full of Dreams” and have sold 80 million records worldwide, will perform an exclusive set of their greatest hits to close the show.
Coldplay seems to have long prepared for this moment. Twitter Inc said on Friday that the R&B singer garnered 182,000 tweets since she was confirmed as a performer for Super Bowl 50 in early January, and Coldplay clocked around 132,000 tweets in that same period. And it’s one that will come with immediate reviews, good or bad.
CBS’ pregame starts at 1 p.m. and kickoff is at 5:30.
