Bryan Bulaga Injury: Updates on Packers RT’s Knee and Return
Most of that came at left tackle before Barclay switched back to right tackle for the preseason finale.
Bulaga held his own against Seattle ends Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett in the NFC Championship game and that task will now fall to Barclay.
Bulaga started 14 games for the Packers past year (plus two in the Playoffs) but has a history of knee injuries – he missed two games with an MCL strain suffered against the Seahawks in Week 2, and he blew out his knee in 2013.
It’s unclear whether Bulaga, who was wearing that same brace in practice Thursday, did more damage to the MCL this time around, so it’s hard to predict if he’ll be able to play in the team’s September 28 Monday Night Football game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I talked to him today”, Linsley said.
Bulaga, the team’s first-round draft pick in 2010, sat out the entire 2013 season because of a torn ACL in the same left knee. PFT reports that Don Barclay likely will take over, as he has made 18 starts combined over 2012-13 and has experience at tackle.
McCarthy said Bulaga was “still going through the evaluation process” to determine the extent of the injury, “but he will not play in Sunday night’s game”. But Barclay had some struggles in pass protection.
Left tackle David Bakhtiari said he didn’t think Bulaga’s injury was serious at first but admitted he didn’t know for certain. DE Datone Jones is looking forward to playing Sunday after serving a one-game suspension for a violation of the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.
“I feel prepared”, Barclay said after ractice Thursday.
“I’m excited to run out of that tunnel with my teammates”.
“I think everybody goes through camp and makes progress”, McCarthy said. “I’m back and I’m excited to be a part of this”.
