Bryan Singer Confirms Legion is Part of X-Men Movie Universe
Legion will be based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name and will feature Downton Abbey actor Dan Stevens in the title role. The second series, Hellfire, is set to follow.
The question has been up in the air: how do the TV series relate to the movies?
The show is being run by Noah Hawley, who also runs the network’s Emmy-award winning mini-series, Fargo. “I don’t want to say too much more about it on that level, but certainly it’s not constructed as a back-door anything”.
Singer added: “Noah Hawley had done an incredible job with Fargo and we wanted to make a show that would be part of the X-Men universe but when you watched it, you wouldn’t have to label it, it can exist completely on its own”. But now, veteran X-Men producer Bryan Singer has confirmed that Legion is *technically* part of the X-Men cinematic universe, which seems to be the story that will stick. “[Legion has a] really ambitious and fun and very unique storyline”. Not to mention Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige keep talking about the ‘Marvel Cinematic Multiverse.’ Hoping for some sort of Sony-Marvel deal after Spider-Man’s cameo in Captain America: Civil War, fan speculation rose about an X-Men cameo in Avengers: Infinity War until ComicBook.com caught up with director Joe Russo to clarify he hasn’t had a conversation with Fox. Maybe we’ll even see Haller’s dad, Charles Xavier.
Singer was referring to Legion, which follows the life of a young man who finds that his mental illness is actually a manifestation of his incredible powers, and to an untitled drama that involves a couple forced to go underground due to their mutant children. It’s possible we’ll see something built/established in the ’90s of the X-Men universe that relates to the modern mutant situation being portrayed in the shows. X-Men Apocalypse opened to tepid reviews in May, and though it was a success at the box office, it still made less than both X-Men: Days of Future Past and surprise hit Deadpool.
