Bryan Singer Considering an X-Men/Fantastic Four Crossover Movie
Bryan Singer already made a major X-Men related crossover, when he united his old original cast with the prequel stars in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Quite possibly the most intriguing question was whether or not we there were any plans for a crossover between the X-Men and Fantastic Four movies’ as both of their film rights, though Marvel comics, are owned by 20th Century Fox studios.
Singer would not give further details about the how the franchises would be combined other than saying, “It deals with time”. But he said he’s sure we haven’t seen the last “X-Men“.
And what does that mean? That’s not something that will be forgotten, even fifty or so years later; and I doubt that mutants’ roles in the world will grow any smaller when Apocalypse rolls around. These are all very human people that end up having to become I guess what is known as the Fantastic Four. How this film [Apocalypse] turns out, how Fantastic Four plays, to really understand what kind of desire [is out there] and how that would really work.
However, while I don’t know how Singer’s “time” comment plays into it, I do think the new Fantastic Four movie may offer an interesting way to lead into a team-up story.
However, Singer does not want fans to get their hopes up just yet.
If Fantastic Four establishes the tech necessary to travel between dimensions, I see no reason why that mechanic couldn’t be the one to link them to the X-Men universe. If they’re not going to be part of the MCU someday in the 2020s, then creating their own shared universe together may be the best way for Fox to make it up to them. But if all goes well, a 2018 crossover film with the X-Men – at least the X-Men left to carry the franchise after Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse – would be “in play” as Singer told Yahoo UK while promoting “The Rogue Cut” of Days of Future Past.
Funnily enough a sequel to Fantastic Four has already been announced, so unless the film flops really badly it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of the four heroes.
