Bryce Petty leads 99-yard TD drive in first NFL start
Two games ago after putting up 10 points: “Quarterback is not the reason we lost”.
Aside from Nick Folk’s missed point-after, the Jets special teams unit played a decent game.
Petty finished his first start in the National Football League 19/32 for 163 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception as the Jets continue work through their quarterback issues. “We knew if we could get him the carries that there would be some creases”.
Defensively, this unit did its job and the fact that they were able to keep the Rams out of the end zone is a testament to that. “But he’s still got a lot of things to learn”.
Rams running back Todd Gurley fends off Jets defender Marcus Gilchrist during Los Angeles’ victory at MetLife Stadium.
Petty’s final line on the day was 19 of 32 for 157 yards with 1 interception and 1 touchdown and a quarterback rating of 70.2. The Jets and Rams have played two overtime games, most recently on January 2, 2005, when the Rams eked out a 32-29 win that left the Jets reliant on help from the Buffalo Bills – who lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers – to back into the playoffs as a wild-card team. Gurley had been listed as questionable for the game and walked into the locker room after it with a slight limp. No offense once so ever, punt after punt after punt all game long.
Perhaps the Los Angeles Rams make the playoff this season, perhaps they don’t.
Darrelle Revis had a rough first half trying to contain Kenny Britt, who caught five receptions for 98 yards before halftime.
The only real injury affecting the Rams’ personnel going into the game was to rookie WR Nelson Spruce, now dealing with his third injury of the 2016 season. His last run of the game was for 21 yards, one of his longest runs of the season, but it was brought back due to a holding penalty by Greg Robinson.
Now the Jets have to let him take the next step sooner rather than later. First, his O-line is bad.
Either way, Petty better not get used to that No. 9. Case Keenum drove his team down the field and to the one-yard line, but then the Rams digressed to the mean as they were stuffed on three straight possessions and settled for a field goal. His 69 yards receiving – all in the first half – were also a single-game career high.
In doing so he preserved the Rams’ win and helped break their four-game losing streak. We wanted to see what we had in the new guy [Eric Tomlinson]. Well, that’s something that’s a complete mystery to every Rams fan in the world. Despite Keenum’s shortcomings, Fisher has repeatedly stuck by the fifth-year pro as he’s stated on a number of occasions that the former University of Houston star has outperformed Jared Goff in practice. I can’t hand it to you any other way. Is it that Goff is just so bad that Keenum is seriously the Rams best option, or is he just not figuring it out yet?
That just about does it for this week’s Rams Recap.
So the way he sees it, it shouldn’t be a problem to be ready for Sunday when the Jets host the Rams. The Rams netted negative yardage in the red zone on Sunday and while the rationale would be that a rookie quarterback might try and do too much and throw an interception, is that a chance you’re willing to take?
