Police claimed Rasheed – working in the intelligence wing at the BSF headquarters in Jammu – was supplying secret documents to his handler who too was arrested.
According to reports, the serving head constable of the BSF has been taken into custody for being the main source for Pakistan Intelligence Operative for procuring confidential information harmful for security of the country. “The racket run by them is supported by Pakistan’s ISI”, Yadav said.
Yadav added that the duo has been arrested under various provisions of IPC and Official Secrets Act.
A crime branch team arrested Khan from the Jammu railway station when he had boarded a train for Bhopal.
Head constable Rasheed, his relative, was one among them.
Besides several documents revealing their links to the ISI, the STF also recovered Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) of a face value Rs two lakh from Irshad and Rs 1.5 lakh from his son Asfaq and Jahangir respectively, the police said. In his complaint, Yadav said the Pakistan intelligence operative had a pan-Indian network of informers that included security personnel. The soldier agreed and shared information through social messaging applications like WhatsApp, Viber along with email.
Later, he quit the job and became a library assistant at a senior secondary school in Majankote area in Rajouri district, the official said. They said during interrogation Rasheed was “not yielding” much to the interrogators and some “highly sensitive and prohibited” photographs and records have been recovered from him.
Suspected ISI agent Mohammand Eizaz was arrested by the police at Meerut.
“During interrogation, Khan told the police that his counterpart had asked him to get a visa done through their source employed at the Pakistan High Commission here”, Yadav told reporters. “Further investigations are on”, he added.
They said Rasheed was required to be taken to various places in Jammu and Kashmir, including Rajouri district, to find out about his other accomplices.
A search has been conducted at the premises of Kafaitullah Khan and Abdul Rasheed, which had led to recovery of important documents.
