Bubba and Tiger recovering from highs and lows
But maybe The Old White TPC will be the breath of fresh air that his game so badly needs.
Of course, opinions are like, um, noses, and everybody has one.
But they do hold a PGA Tour event here every year (since 2009), and I think paid some pretty big bucks to do so.
“I know what I’m doing out here”, Woods said. Macdonald is going to be on full display at this Par 70 course that measures at 7,287 yards. And it’s in pristine condition. And don’t count on keeping the lead…no 54 hole leader has ever won. Speaking of which, he owns three scores in the 80s this year in just 16 rounds. “I’m ready to go”. Tiger Woods is in the field, now ranked outside the top 200, playing in this event for the second time. Louis Oosthuizen, of made-US-Open-even-more-interesting fame is back this week, as are 6 of the world’s top 30. “I haven’t had a rhythm to play”. But we have a strong Athens contingent this week with a lot of the familiar names. He will tee it up on the Old White TPC for the fourth time, with his best result a tie for 12th three years ago, when he shot 64 in the third round. This course suits his eye.
Russell Henley (59,54): He was on a tear earlier, not missing a cut this season. Or even contend. His main goal lately, though, has been about improvement – and there remains adequate evidence that he’ll attain this goal. He has a bad Greenbrier record, but that was a different Kevin Kisner.
Woods probably will get two weeks off ahead of the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits because he is not in the top 60 in the World Golf Rankings, so he will not qualify for the WGC Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone – where he has won eight times.
Although keen not to get stuck into to any of the supposed men-most-likely, Finau’s claims look outstanding to me and given that we only need him to keep up the good work to have a live runner, he looks decent value.
Woods, who shared 17th at the Masters in his only decent showing this year, was again the subject of tabloid reports yesterday as the National Enquirer stated Woods and USA ski star Lindsey Vonn split up in May after two years together because she caught Woods cheating on her with Amanda Boyd, a 27-year-old who in March divorced star golfer Jason Dufner, the 2013 PGA Championship victor.
He isn’t now qualified for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, nor is he among the top 125 which reach the FedEx Cup playoffs.
The course is not the hardest on tour, and scores can get low here, although if the wind blows – as previous year – then it can bare its teeth a little.
Hudson Swafford- Hudson Swafford had a disappointing second round last week that cost him a chance to play the weekend. Since 2010, he has more wins on Tour than anyone other than Rory McIlroy. I’m also looking at Patrick Reed.
The rookie always seems to find a way to play well, and he posted a T-25 at the Travelers for his sixth straight top-25 finish.
